A classic chicken sandwich is a great alternative to a regular burger. In fact, it pretty much is a burger – a chicken burger!
It’s hearty, tasty and you can load it up with all your favorite condiments and toppings.
Traditionally, the chicken sandwich is made with boneless, skinless fried chicken breast or thigh fillet. Chicken fillet is great because it is in the right shape for a sandwich, and it’s thin enough to bite through easily. Chicken breast fillet is a bit drier than thigh fillet, especially if it isn’t tenderized or marinated beforehand.
You can often find a box of breaded chicken burgers in the frozen section of your supermarket for an even quicker version of this recipe.
For a healthier version of this sandwich, you could substitute grilled or broiled chicken instead of fried chicken, which tastes great as well! Of course, it all depends on your individual taste preference.
This recipe is for one sandwich. Feel free to multiply it for more servings.

- 1 tsp. honey mustard
- slice of Swiss cheese
- slice of tomato

This sandwich is really easy to make. Cook your chicken in whatever way you love (fry, saute, broil, grill, etc,) put it on the bun and load it up!
For the least amount of mess, try this order:
Bun, Mayo, Chicken, Cheese, Onion, Tomato, Pickles, Lettuce, Pepper, Mustard, Bun. Take a bite, and enjoy!
Serve with fries, salad or coleslaw as a side.
*hint: It’s a good idea to tenderize your chicken breast to flatten it so that it sits on the bun more evenly.
